The Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Archbishop Maurizio Bravi, presented his Letter of Credence to the Governor General, His Excellency Sir David Tiva Kapu, at Government House on Wednesday 6th August 2025.

Archbishop Bravi was recently appointed as the Holy See’s representative to the Solomon Islands, with residence in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

In welcoming the Apostolic Nuncio, the Governor General said, Solomon Islands values its longstanding partnership with the Holy See—a relationship rooted in mutual respect and a shared commitment to the common good.

He acknowledged the Catholic Church’s significant contributions to the country, particularly in the areas of spiritual guidance, education, and healthcare, noting that these services have enriched countless lives and promoted the well-being of the nation.

“The Government of Solomon Islands deeply values this enduring commitment and looks forward to continued cooperation,” Sir David stated.

The Governor General also reflected on the Catholic Church’s significant milestones this year, particularly the passing of Pope Francis, whose compassion and advocacy for peace inspired many around the world—and the election of Pope Leo XIV as the 267th successor of Saint Peter.

“Solomon Islands shares in the Church’s hope-filled journey under the leadership of Pope Leo XIV during this Holy Year of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’—a theme that resonates strongly with our national aspirations for peace, unity, and mutual respect,” he said.
