A MAN, who confessed to stealing two cartons of can drinks and a cooler container from the Post Office in Honiara in January, will be sentenced on June 10.
Michael Wanman Meke, 39, previously pleaded guilty to one count of Simple Larceny.
However, the sentence was adjourned due to concerns about another potential charge.
Principal Magistrate Dalcy Belapitu Oligari had been ready to deliver sentence on Tuesday but decided to delay it further.
She informed the prosecution that the defendant had another charge of Simple Larceny, therefore wanted to give them time to verify this information.
Public Prosecutor Iete Tebakota requested another adjournment to confirm if Meke had another charge.
Magistrate Oligari warned that if the prosecution failed to confirm the separate charge, she would proceed with sentencing on June 10.
The incident occurred on 2 January 2025 at around 4pm at the Post Office in Honiara.
The court heard Meke entered a room near the entrance and stole two cartons of drinks (Ace Vera King and Polka milk coffee) and a cooler container.
After removing the items, the defendant carried them out from the office and walked easterly direction towards the Telekom Office, without knowing that another female employee was keeping an eye on him.
The female employee ran and informed the security on duty, who chased the defendant and took him to the Central Police Station.
At the police station, the defendant was formally arrested for the offence.
Lazarus Waroka of Public Solicitor’s Office is representing Meke.
