Police in Malaita Province are investigating an alleged murder case following a brawl that broke out in the eastern region of the province on Saturday, 14th June.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a dispute over a compensation payment, which escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the death of an elderly man.
Malaita Provincial Police Operations Manager, Michael Ramosaea, told the Solomon Star that officers have responded to the incident and identified a suspect.
“One of the suspects also sustained injuries and has been transported to Honiara for medical treatment,” Mr. Ramosaea said.
He appeals to community members and parties involved to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, urging them to allow police to carry out their investigation.
“A case has now been established, and police are currently collecting statements from witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation,” he added.
