Age is no barrier for Duono, sets eye on white jersey

There is no age limit to wearing the national colours.

This was the comment of Sanaila Duono who has set his eyes on the national sevens jumper.

The 26-year-old Nalidi, Ra man featured for the renowned PWD Bure team in the Tier Two division of the R.C Manubhai Nataleira 7s tournament at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Duono said local sevens competition including the Nataleira 7s was a great platform for teams from rural villages.

“This team represents the 14 provinces and the door is always open for anyone to join,” he said.

“I had to look for players to join the team and we got players from Naitaisiri, Dawasamu in Tailevu and the rest from our village.”

Duaono added the players had trained in different locations as most of the players were spending the festive sesason with their families.

He indicated that his side has potential players that has what it takes to make it to the national squad.

“I believe they can go on to represent the national sevens team in the future,” he said.

“I’m thankful to our supporters and stakeholders who help finance the teams’ food, transport and registration as well.”

Duaono said the team’s target was to showcase their talent and skills.

He hopes to improve his fitness and preparation time for future tournaments.

“I faced a lot of injuries in the past but I always look ahead and keep moving forward,” Duono said.

PWD lost to Gau Kacau, 7-19, in their first match.

“We will need to improve our communication and discipline on the field in our next match.”

Duono said he was inspired by his fellow villager, Iliesa Nadai who was a former national sevens rep.
