After 3 years away, Kingz now within reach of S-League title – Solomon Star News

After three years away from top-tier football, Malaita Kingz FC have made a stunning return to the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) Super League (S-League) and are now just four games away from claiming their first-ever title and a spot in the 2025 OFC Champions League.

Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash against second-placed Honiara City FC saw Eddie Marahare’s men came from behind to secure a hard fought 2-1 victory, extending their lead at the top of the standings.

It took only six minutes for Honiara City to open the scoring when Raymond Mostin was left unmarked and calmly slotted home with a neat finish.

Despite a slow start, Kingz soon found their rhythm after conceding the early goal. Pacey forward Adrian Abae brought them level in the 23rd minute with a well-taken strike.

The first half saw end-to-end action as both sides created scoring opportunities but failed to convert, heading into the break locked at 1-1.

Kingz returned stronger in the second half, and after a number of chances, Adrian Mara put his side ahead with a goal that would prove to be the match-winner.

The win sees Kingz sitting comfortably at the top with 44 points and five points clear of Central Coast FC, who moved into second place on 39 points after their victory over Ghupo FC on Sunday.

Honiara City have now slipped to third with 37 points.

In Saturday’s other result, Kossa FC returned to winning ways with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Sosa FC.

Goals from Phillimon Talisia and Reuben Paramate were enough to secure all three points.

With just four matchweeks remaining plus a few catch-up fixtures, the 2025 S-League season is shaping up for a thrilling finish, with five teams still in contention for the title.
