Conservation International Pacific Region vice-president Susana Tuisese says the National Development Plan (NDP) 2025–2029 has a clear definition of how government is going to conduct resource mobilisation, infrastructure development, education and awareness and accountability of the plan itself.
Speaking during the NDP 2025–2029 panel discussion at the USP’s Laucala Campus on Tuesday, Ms Tuisese said the NDP prioritised inclusiveness as it addressed access to clean drinking water in all rural areas,.
“The plan reinforces Fiji’s commitment to SDG 15 which aims to protect and restore sustainable forest management, combat desertification and reverse biodiversity loss,” Ms Tuisese said.
“The indicators, the KPI’s, are not very clear on what the protected areas could be in order to provide clean drinking water that’s needed but Fiji is very fortunate that there has been a plan on the key that benefits the areas rallied across Fiji.
“Basically, proposing the protection of all mountain ranges in Fiji that will total up to about 60.7 per cent of Fiji’s land.
“If that is going to be one of the core factors that could be included in the plan and with a clear indicator, perhaps the future generations will not have to struggle with getting clean water.”
