QVS U17 Basketball Off to a Good Start

Queen Victoria School Under-17 recorded a 14-1 win against Fiji Agape Mission School of Nadi in the Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Basketball Championship at the Lautoka Multi-purpose court yesterday.

“All these years we have been fielding one grade, U19 and this year we fielded in the other two grades U17 and U15,” coach Isimeli Koroi said.

“The competition is getting tough. We were training non-rugby players, and when the Deans finished the others joined to assist us go for the defend the title. We do holistic approach; we compete in all the sports to expose talents.”

In other games defending champions Yat Sen proved too strong for International School School 66 – 10. U15 girls champion SGS beat Natabua High 36 – 6.

U19 Girls defending champions St Joseph Secondary lost to SGS 28 – 12.

Basketball Fiji chief operating officer Lau Puamau said they were happy with the standard of basketball put up by schools

“This is a good environment for students to enjoy, as this competition has resumed after three years due to COVID,” Puamau said.

“It has been a while since the competition has returned to the West. The synergies are great and we thank the teachers and supporters. “What better way to spend your holidays than what you enjoy in a supervised environment and organised.”

In addition to cash prizes, 18 desktops and 18 basketballs will be given to winning schools.

U19 Boys: MBHS 13 – 30 JWC, Tilak 7 – 17 SGS, SVC 14 – 36 ISS, GHS 21 – 14 Votualevu College, YSS 39 – 0 NHS, CCL 6 -14 LDS.

U19 Girls: SGS 28 – 12 SJSS, NHS 16 – 0 SVC, ISS 21 – 25 YSS;

U17 Boys: ISS 32 – 0 CCL, YSS 66 – 10 ISN, MBHS 15 – 6 Tilak, QVS 14 – 1 FAMS, SVC 33 – 6 NHS.

U17 Girls: SJSS 38 – 10 SVC, LDS 9 – 16 YSS.

U15 Girls: SGS 36 – 6 NHS, YSS 27 – 4 FAMS, SJSS 18- 4 Tilak

U15 Boys: NHS O – 34 ISS.
