Solomon Islands international Chris Hatarau is the latest local player set to feature in the 2026 season of Fiji’s Extra Premier League after sealing a deal with Labasa FA.
Speaking to Star Sport, the former Laugu United and Malaita Kingz forward said he is excited and confident as he prepares for the new challenge.
“I am so excited to join Labasa this season. Labasa is a big name in Fijian football over the years, so there will be huge pressure, but I am confident in myself that I will excel here,” Hatarau said.
Hatarau has spent most of his career in the domestic S-League, with a short overseas stint in Vanuatu where he featured for Classic FC in the 2024 VFF Champions League.
“I heard from our past players that football here is more physical, but overall I am happy to play in a new environment. It is also an opportunity for me to grow and adapt to new ideas, new teammates and, most importantly, the culture here,” he added.
The pacey winger is hopeful of settling in quickly and building strong chemistry with his teammates before the league kicks off in February.
“My aim for this season is mainly to help Labasa win games, get along with my teammates and have a great first season here in Fiji,” he said.
“Everything has been really good. Everyone here has been very welcoming and the environment has been great. I hope to adapt and settle in very well.”
Hatarau also took time to thank those who helped make the move possible.
“I give honour back to God for giving me this opportunity and also to the people who are responsible for making this move possible. I hope to do great things this season,” he said.
Hatarau began his local football journey with Real Kakamora, where he established himself as a key player, before joining Laugu United in 2021.
He later moved to Malaita Kingz ahead of the 2025 season.
