The viral video by City Slikkas is raising safety concerns from both viewers and the mall. The clip, posted to an Instagram, has been viewed 2.8 million times.
Several people in the comments section of the clip highlighted the risks associated with the rooftop romp.
“OMG if that glass breaks, your [sic] dead. That is freaky as s***,” one wrote.
Another questioned the water quality of the pond, speculating “that water’s probably not been touched since the mall opened”.
In 2022, Scentre Group, which owns Westfield Newmarket, announced it had started using rainwater harvesting tanks to “top up the sky pool when needed”.
It intended to use the same water to “support some of the flushing water in the amenity blocks”.
Responding to the Herald earlier, City Slikkas said their stunts were intended to only “spread joy”.
“Not trying to piss anyone off we are a positive group,” they said.
The stunt participants confirmed police were called to the mall after the stunt, but said “we managed to slick away quick”.
In early January, City Slikkas also uploaded footage of two young men plunging into the sea under the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi labelled that jump as “illegal and dangerous”.
Other videos posted by the account show various escapades occurring around Auckland – including a group playing human bowling in Eden Terrace’s Basque Park and a person pouring 2 litres of milk into their trousers while standing in a Queen St intersection.
