16-year-old Nadi student latest drowning victim – The Fiji Times

A 16-year-old male student from Nadi is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim following an incident at the Narewa River yesterday morning.

Police said the teenager was swimming in the river with friends when he encountered difficulties in the water.

His friends managed to pull him out and attempted to resuscitate him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The student was later rushed to Nadi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Fiji Police Force confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Authorities have again urged members of the public, particularly young people, to exercise caution when swimming in rivers and other waterways, especially during periods of strong currents or after rainfall.
