Funubana released on bail, robbery case adjourned to Jan 20 – Solomon Star News

A MAN accused of being part of a group that robbed a businessman of between $200,000 and $500,000 in Henderson, Central Guadalcanal, has been released early this week after finally paying up his cash bail.

Eddie Funubana, who is facing one count of robbery, appeared in the Honiara Magistrates Court this week, where it was confirmed that he paid his $5,000 cash bail and was released from custody.

The matter was mentioned and adjourned to January 20.

During the mention, the court was informed that the case file remains with police investigators, and not yet transferred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

In the meantime, the prosecution will follow up with police to ensure the file is forwarded to the ODPP before the next court date.

Funubana is accused of being part of a group of four men who allegedly attacked a businessman on the morning of 2 June 2025 in the Henderson Nine One area.

The victim was reportedly approached while leaving his parked vehicle, and threatened with knives.

The attackers allegedly stole a bag containing cash estimated between $200,000 and $300,000, a power bank, and a small bottle of gold weighing three to four grams.

Funubana was arrested on 15 December 2025 after being identified by a local, while the other three alleged attackers remain at large.

He was granted bail by Principal Magistrate Emily Zazariko Vagibule Pakoa last week, with conditions including residing at his surety’s home in Lungga, reporting weekly to the Central Police Station, observing a 7pm to 6:30am curfew, not interfering with witnesses or investigations, not leaving Guadalcanal without court permission, keeping the peace and attending all court dates.
