The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has expressed full support for the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji (SSDPSF) following its formal complaint to police over derogatory remarks made against Hindu and Muslim religious practices by a serving police officer.
In a statement, Arya Sabha President Arun Padarath said the organisation stands firmly with the Sanatan Sabha in condemning any speech or action that disrespects any faith.
“We join the SSDPSF in condemning any form of speech or action that disrespects the faith, traditions, or festivals of any religious community,” Mr Padarath said.
“Such remarks not only cause hurt to devotees but also undermine the harmony, mutual respect, and unity that form the foundation of Fiji’s multicultural society.”
He said Fiji’s strength lies in its diversity and shared values of peace and tolerance.
“Fiji is a nation built on the principles of equality, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. It is therefore imperative that all individuals, particularly those in positions of public trust, uphold these values through their words and actions.”
The Arya Sabha reaffirmed its commitment to promoting interfaith understanding and urged for appropriate action under the law.
“We echo the SSDPSF’s call for continued efforts to preserve racial and religious harmony in our beloved Fiji.”
He added that places of worship must serve as unifying spaces that promote compassion and respect.
“Places of worship and community leaders must serve as beacons of peace and moral guidance, not division.”
“Let us all work together, guided by the principles of truth, respect, righteousness, and universal brotherhood, to strengthen national unity and uphold the dignity of every faith.”
