Wickham urges colleague MPAs to fulfill responsibilities – Solomon Star News

MEMBER of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Ward 16, in Western Province has delivered a strong message to his fellow Assembly Members, urging them to perform their duties with integrity and commitment for the benefit of the people they represent.

Speaking during the Motion of Sine Die debate in the Western Provincial Assembly on Friday, Hon. Wickham reminded his colleagues that their positions as elected leaders come with great responsibility and expectations from their communities.

He challenged all MPAs to take a moment of reflection and ask themselves whether they have truly served their people well and delivered the development they promised.

“Do our people feel happy with what we are doing? Are there developments happening in our wards? What have I achieved for my people?” Hon. Wickham questioned.

He said such honest self-assessment is vital for good governance and effective leadership, especially as the province continues to face social and economic challenges.

Hon. Wickham further emphasized that leadership is not about personal recognition or political gain but about producing tangible results that improve the living conditions of the people.

“Our duty is not only to attend Assembly meetings or make speeches. It is about being proactive, engaging with our communities, understanding their needs, and working hard to bring development and services closer to them,” he said.

He reminded the Members that the people of Western Province have placed their trust in them to be agents of change, and that trust should not be taken lightly.

Hon. Wickham also called for unity among MPAs, saying cooperation and mutual respect are key to moving the province forward.

“The people are watching. They expect us to work together, not against each other. Only through unity can we achieve lasting progress,” he said.

The Motion of Sine Die is normally a time traditionally used by MPAs to reflect and set their priorities ahead of the next Provincial Assembly Meeting.
