 FAST secures 30 seats to form a new Government

Apia, Samoa – 04 September 2025 – The Fa’atuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi – FAST has secured 30 seats at the final count this afternoon clearing the way to from a new government.

In the election timeline, the official result should be handed over to the Head of State Tuimalealiifano Va’aleto’a Sualauvi 11 tomorrow, Friday 5th September 2025.

The Head of State is expected to return the Warrant by the 8 September 2025 with a date and time for Parliament to convene.

Under the Constitution, Parliament has to convene in 45 days from the day of the general election.

The official count started Monday and completed today and of the 6 political parties that competed in the election, four secured results and two did not.

The final result:

  • Fa’atuatua I Le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) – 30
  • Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) -14
  • Samoa Uniting Party (SUP) – 3
  • Independents- 4

Palauli 2 Member of Parliament elect, Fiu Faaolatane Ponifasio Vasa is registered as an independent candidate but has been on the campaign trail with the FAST party’s roadshows and is counted by FAST as one of its winning candidates to bring the number of seats to 31.

The last 5 electoral constituencies counted today were Anoama’a 1, Aleipata Itupa Lalo, Aeipata Itupa Luga, Va’a-o-Fonoti and Salega 1.

Salega 1
Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ministry of Agriculture Tilafono David Hunter has secured the Salega 1 district parliamentary seat for the FAST Party.

He polled 473 over second place HRPP candidate Selu Letoa Reupena – 406 and Independent candidate Falesii Aisa Autagavaia 158.

Vaa o Fonoti, one of the last five constituencies to be counted today.

Aleipata Itupa I Luga
FAST claimed the Aleipata Itupa I Luga seat with newcomer Tafua Edmund Tafua polling 346.  Independent candidate Alailesulu Faapalo Toomatalai polled 218 and former MP, Fuaava Saumalu Suluimalo Amataga Penaia of HRPP polled 210.

SUP candidate Faleomavaega Titimaea Tafua returns winning 663 votes to beat HRPPs Taiao Matavai Tautunu Aumualesigano who polled 537. FASTs Vaotogo Rodney Chang Tamasese 509 and HRPP Faagasealii Sapoa Feagiai 312.

Va’a-o-Fonoti
Caretaker minister for communications, Mau’u Atiifale Siaosi Pu’epu’emai won comfortably with 547 votes over FAST’s Fuimaono Tui Vaitolo Ofoia who polled 267. Former CEO of Health, Leausa Dr. Take Naseri 121 and Taumainamoe Aufui Brown of the Constitution Democratic Republican Party (CDRP) 25.

Anoama’a 2
HRPP Deputy Leader, Lauofo Nuafesili Pierre Meredith won comfortably with 1214 votes to return for his fifth term in parliament.

He beat FAST Leiu Ioane Lamositele, 899, Toomata Nora Toomata 195 and SUP candidate Taiatu Asi Sasa Milo 109.
