A team from the E-Commerce Implementations Unit (EIU) under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration successfully held an information sharing session with the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI).
The session was acknowledged by the SICCI Members.
As part of its continuous service delivery, SICCI co-hosted an information session for 40 SICCI Member companies where the EIU presented on “Driving SME Growth Through E-Commerce and Digital Trade”, on Monday 1st September 2025 at the Heritage-Park Hotel.
During his opening remarks, SICCI’s Executive Officer, Mr. Nelson Kere stated that “E-Commerce and Digital Trade offer not only substantial opportunity for businesses to increase output, they also offer solutions to overcome barriers that often inhibit growth – thereby aligning with SICCI’s Strategic Objectives”.
Mr. Filliam Iro’ofa, SICCI’s Advocacy Officer, said the presentation provided valuable insight for SICCI’s SMEs. Further stating that SMEs are critical to Solomon Islands economic growth prospects yet many still face barriers to growth – including limited access to digital tools that often mean the difference in accessing wider markets.
During the session, EIU Director, Mr. Richard Nokia stated that “businesses must consider digital adoptions in their business operations. This is because technology is rapidly evolving and all SMEs within private sector ought to understand and be aware of the digital economy and its opportunities”.
Mr. Nokia further stated that “digitalization has the potential to better integrate leading and lagging regions, and improve the functions of markets. Mr. Nokia then highlighted that “global exports of digitally delivered services have grown faster than exports of goods and other services over the past 20 years”.
SICCI affirms its continuous collaboration with the EIU, under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour and Immigration, in the implementation of the Solomon Islands National E-Commerce Strategy 2022-2027, including on the private sector working group, expansion of digital/AI training opportunities for SICCI members, and broadening market access for SMEs.
“As the leading partner for the private sector, SICCI remains committed to shaping a business environment that empowers investors, strengthens local content, and secures a prosperous economic future for the Solomon Islands,” the Chamber concluded.
