Victorious women’s football team congratulated

Prime Minister (PM) Jeremiah Manele, MP, on Monday moved a historic motion in Parliament, extending congratulations to the Solomon Islands National Women’s Soccer Team for winning the OFC Nations Cup for the very first time.

“This victory is more than just a sporting achievement. It is a national moment that unites every Solomon Islander- from Shortlands to Tikopia, from Ontong Java to Rennell and Bellona,” said Prime Minister Manele.

The Prime Minister described the women’s triumph as a testament to what Solomon Islanders can achieve, given the opportunity, belief, and relevant support. He praised the team for demonstrating “courage, teamwork, and the heart of champions.”

Prime Minister Manele described the recent OFC Nations Cup victory by the national women’s soccer team as “a symbol of unity and hope” for the Solomon Islands.

“Sport is a unifying force. It transcends provincial, tribal, political, and religious lines. This victory reminds us of our shared identity and the power of national cohesion” the Prime Minister stated.

The Prime Minister further stressed the potential of sports in building peace, empowering youth, and inspiring pride across communities. He encouraged the nation to continue harnessing the power of sports to bring people together.

“This is not just about medals and trophies. Sport can be a real pathway to economic opportunity and empowerment.”

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Government for National Unity and Transformation’s (GNUT) commitment to sports, especially under its social and human development pillar.

He also called on sports federations to uphold good governance and accountability to ensure sustainable progress.
