Scoring a try on his debut for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians has set the tone of Salesi Rayasi’s performance against Scotland.
The Matuku, Lau, fullback scored against Wallabies in their, 18-21, loss at McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle on Sunday.
“It feels good to have my debut, just lucky enough to score,” the Vannes winger said.
“Now we are playing at home, so I guess it has added motivation to put a good performance on for the home crowd and a chance to try and beat Scotland.”
He indicated some of his family members from New Zealand will be at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva on Saturday to watch the Flying Fijians take on the Scots.
Rayasi said he blended in well with the squad.
“They are fun. They are good, really helpful and that made my transition very smooth. It has been easier for me just to fit in with all the players.”
Asked on how he felt after scoring against the Wallabies, Rayasi said: “I felt good. I just wanted to help the team really.”
Flying Fijians head coach, Mick Byrne commended Rayasi on his debut performance.
“It was his debut game; we really just wanted to see them do their job, and I thought he did his role really well.
“There are a couple of nice moments for him in there as well and then you get a try on in that boot, which is always special. I think he was pretty accomplished in the back field for us. We always thought it was safe for him there,” Byrne added.
Fiji will host Scotland at 3pm at the HFC Bank Stadium on Saturday.
