Apia, Samoa – 08 July 2025 – A motorist who paid a $10 tala parking ticket at the Fagalii Airport this morning has questioned the validity of the ticket due to the inconsistency of the information on it.
The motorist who dropped off passengers catching the 1030 flight to American Samoa, sent Talamua the ticket that is charged by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) which gave the wrong time and date as well as the amount paid.
According to the motorist, he paid the ticket this morning shortly after 9.00am. But the ticket is dated 7/7/25, recorded the time at 12.09 and showed only $1.00 when he paid $10 tala.
The ticket with the information in question that we have forwarded to the CEO’s Secretary at the Land Transport Authority.
The motorist found out too late about the information on the ticket as he lived far from the airport.
When Talamua contacted the Land Transport Authority office at Vaitele, the CEO’s secretary explained that LTA does not charge any parking tickets at the Fagalii Airport.
“That comes under the Samoa Airport Authority,” she explained. “We only charge parking in Apia town.”
She requested a copy of the ticket which we have forwarded to antonina@lta.gov.ws.
We made several efforts to get through to the Samoa Airport Authority on its registered office phone number 23021 but never got answered. We also sent an email request submitted through the SAA’s website and still have not obtained a response.
For the sake of the unhappy motorist and the general public, we hope SAA will respond with an explanation as to why they charge and made out receipts under LTA when the money is (and should be) paid to the Samoa Airport Authority.
