HELEN MUSA wraps a week of upcoming arts and entertainment events into one useful column called Artsweek.

A one-week-only NAIDOC Week exhibition, Elegance in Heritage: First Nations Jewellery Unveiled, by ANCA studio artist Thomas Coen Bonson will be at ANCA Gallery, Dickson, until July 13.

Children’s author Stephanie Owen Reeder and illustrator Ingrid Bartkowiak as they uncover the peculiar world of Australian animal families with their new book Peculiar Parents. There will also be a special meet and greet with animals from the Canberra Reptile Zoo, National Library, July 5.

Geoff’s Poetry at Smiths features Peter Boyle from Sydney and Paul Magee from Canberra, Smith’s alternative, Civic, July 7.

Guides from the ANU Classic Museum will present their winter series, Aspects of Life in Ancient Greece and Rome, AD Hope Conference Room, July 7-8.

  • AC/DC tribute band Bon But Not Forgotten will be at The Royal Hotel Queanbeyan, July 4.
  • Divine Darkness sees Ensemble Offspring, with soprano Jane Sheldon, one world premiere and three Australian premieres, all wrapped in immersive live video by Peachey & Mosig, The Street Theatre, July 4.
  • Emmy Award winning singer-songwriter Toni Childs will be in town to celebrate her life’s musical works through fan favourites and an introduction to her new music. The Playhouse, July 5.
  • Canberra Choral Society and National Capital Orchestra join to perform The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by British composer Karl Jenkins, and Human Waves by Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin Llewellyn Hall, July 5.
  • Clarinettist Elsie Chen and pianist Mandy Ng, joined by clarinettist/pianist Thomas Azoury and guest bassoonist Rebecca Rivera, are performing a joint recital at Wesley Music Centre, July 5.
  • Apeiron Baroque will mix gems from the past and music from the future, preceded at 3pm by Don Gonzo music, a 30-minute pre-concert show catering for young children and families in an informal setting. Wesley Uniting Church, July 6.
  • Young pianists from the studio of Jinbo Huang will perform a selection of music for piano solo and piano duet in the Wesley Lunchtime Series, Wesley Music Centre, July 9.
