 Selwyn’s Diko crowned 100m champ

O’Brain Welshman Diko of Selwyn College has been crowned the new 100m champion at the 2025 Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG25), following a thrilling final held on Tuesday, July 1, at the National Stadium in Honiara.

The victory also marks Selwyn College’s first gold medal of the SISSG25 — a strong start for the defending overall champions from 2021.

Diko sprinted to the finish line in an impressive time of 11.11 seconds, edging out Bishop Epalle’s Alick K., who took silver with a time of 11.53 seconds. Jinaldine of Saint Joseph’s Tenaru settled for bronze in third place.

Speaking to Star Sports after the race, an exhausted but proud Diko said the result was the reward of months of dedication.

“I really wanted this gold after my recent win at the ACOMSIC Games. I can proudly say that all my hard work has finally paid off today,” he said.

The Form 5 SELCO student also extended his gratitude to his coaches and school staff for their support in the build-up to the competition.

Athletics action continues on Wednesday, July 3, with more events set to thrill fans at the National Stadium.
