Justice sector leaders embark on transformational leadership journey in Aust

Fourteen (14) of the Solomon Islands’ emerging justice sector leaders will this week begin an intensive leadership development program under the Australia-Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice (ASIPJ).

The four-day Transformational Leadership Training, facilitated by renowned leadership expert Moses O’Connor, marks the second cohort of this groundbreaking initiative. Following the training, participants will undertake 12 months of personalized one-on-one mentorship to further develop their leadership capabilities.
The program builds on the success of its first cohort in 2024 which graduated 20 leaders including the Registrar General, senior legal officers from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, representatives from the Public Solicitor’s Office, staff from the Solomon Islands Legal Reform Commission, and officials from the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs.
Participants will develop advanced leadership capabilities with a focus on strategic decision-making, effective team management techniques, and practical approaches to leading change within justice sector institutions.

The program combines interactive workshops with real-world case studies to ensure immediate application of skills.

“The main objective is to establish foundations of transformational leadership – what it is and what it looks like in practice,” World renown leadership trainer and the workshops facilitator, Moses O’Connor said.

“The ongoing mentoring is for 12 months, which indicates an intentionality of not just ticking the box, but to actually have leaders walk away from this – actually transformed.” Mr O’Connor concluded.

“This training is important for SIG agencies and the justice sector as a whole because it helps us become proactive and sensitive leaders,” said one female participant, “from what I have learned so far, this training would help us identify the strengths of those around us and support their growth, this is something that is much needed in the justice sector and public services as a whole,” she concluded.

The training ends this week Friday and will mark the start of the 12 months mentoring schedule.
The Australia-Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice (ASIPJ) is a bilateral initiative supporting justice sector development through capacity building, institutional strengthening and professional development programs.
