The Grasshoppers Netball Club (GNC) will be embarking on an overseas tour next month.

GNC secretary Adi Unaisi Ranavue said yesterday this is part of their plans for the 2025 netball season.

“The Under-12 and Under-14 teams will travel to Brisbane (in Australia) in July to participate in the Queensland Nissan State Age Championship,” Ranavue said.

“The club has many impactful and educational activities scheduled for the remainder of the year. These include workshops covering career guidance, health education, and gender equality to empower young girls with knowledge and life skills.”

She added that through a combination of sports, education, and social engagement, the club continues to fulfill its mission of building future leaders who are not only strong netballers but also conscious, capable, and caring citizens.

“Grasshoppers Netball Club looks forward to more opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of its players and the wider community.”

Recently, GNC had their first community outreach programme with a Rubbish Pick-Up Drive from Muanikau Park to Stella Maris School.

“This event marked a significant milestone for the club, reflecting its commitment to nurturing not only skilled athletes but also responsible and engaged citizens,” said Ranavue.

The objective of the drive was to:

  • Instill a sense of environmental responsibility in young players
  • Promote active citizenship
  • Foster teamwork beyond the netball court
  • Raise awareness about keeping public spaces clean

Ranavue said this initiative is part of GNC’s broader goal to develop its members mentally, spiritually, and socially, alongside their physical fitness and netball skills.

In addition to their weekly training sessions, GNC has launched other programmes to support the holistic development of their players:

Extra Classes – Special academic support for Year 8 girls to assist them in balancing schoolwork and sports.
Community Outreach – Including the current rubbish pick-up and other upcoming activities.
