Boyers’ club triumph over Vipers

A Football South Australia (FSA) State League One clash between clubs hosting Solomon Islanders Rovu Boyers and Micah Lea’alafa ended in favour of Boyers.

Boyers and his West Adelaide club also known as ‘Hellas’ won 3-0 against Vipers FC in an FSA Round 12 fixture in Adelaide on Saturday.

Although not on the scoresheet for the Hellas this round, Boyers played a crucial role in their victory before he was replaced just before full time.

This proves that Boyers is a key player for West Adelaide having started in 12 matches for the club and played a total of 13 so far this season. He has also scored six goals so far in the FSA State League One.

Lea’alafa being a veteran of the sport showed his class for his Vipers but in a team-sport like football, he alone cannot salvage a point or a win.

He was replaced in the 79th minute as West Adelaide won convincingly to maintain a tight grip on third place with 23 points.

Vipers are currently in tenth spot with 12 points on the FSA State League One table.

Another Solomon Islander William Komasi did not feature for his club Adelaide Cobras for the second time on Saturday in a 1-1 draw against South Adelaide.

Komasi’s Cobras are in eighth position while their opponents South Adelaide are 11th on the FSA State League One table.

In the FSA National Premier League (NPL), Junior David’s Croydon FC beat Playford City 3-1. David who often played as a right wing back came in as left wing back during the second half. His left side position might bat an eye for frequent Solomon Islands national team followers as David was sometimes deployed in that same position.

This victory for David’s Croydon FC places them in sixth place, a point behind Javin Wae’s Campbelltown City.

Wae and his club, Campbelltown City faced off against league leaders Metro Stars on Friday where they lost 4-0.

Wae started in defence, but his costly clearance gave Metro Stars their first goal in the 28th minute.

Metro Stars were leading 2-0 before the break and Wae was replaced at the restart. Stars added two more goals in the second stanza to settle the match; and cemented their first-place position with 29 points.

In the New South Wales (NSW) NPL, Raphael Leai came off the bench in the 67th minute for Wollongong Wolves in 1-1 draw against St George City on Saturday.

Wolves are ninth whilst St George is in eighth position in the NSW NPL men’s ladder.

The Solomon Islands soccer players are playing club football in Adelaide with Leai in Wollongong through a funding support from the Australia High Commission in Honiara in partnership with the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF).
