FOUR male teenagers are counting their lucky stars after surviving a car accident on Friday night along the Sea Breeze roadway in Tophill, Gizo, Western Province.
The accident occurred between 9 and 10pm near the old Premier’s residence, when the driver of the Toyota Rav4 lost control and veered off the main road. From the road it rolled down a slope and hit a tree.
Fortunately, a tree and few bushes helped stopped the vehicle from going down further, it was reported.
Otherwise, it would have crashed into a family home located further down.
It was a lucky escape for the occupants of the vehicle and the family living inside the home.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was traveling at a high speed before it veered off the road with the driver and passengers inside.
Fortunately, the young boys survived. They sustained only minor injuries and were able to escape the crash without serious harm.
Local residents quickly responded to the scene to assist the injured teenagers.
Gizo Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) – Police Officers are now investigating the cause of the crash. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.
No official report has yet been released by police at this time of publication.
Its likely the driver will be charged for reckless driving.
Residents have once again raised concerns about speeding along the Sea Breeze roadway, urging for more road safety awareness.
Gizo Police have been reminding drivers to avoid driving and speeding when under the influence of alcohol.
