An American investor who operates a business in Fiji donated a tent to the Fiji Police Force, in an effort to enhance police presence in towns and cities.
Fiji Real Estate Professionals owner and co-director, Baron Bruno, handed over the donation to police earlier this week at the Northern Division Police Headquarters in Labasa.
Mr Bruno said they wanted to assist the law enforcement agency in reducing criminal offences.”
“Tourists and investors want to travel and do business in a place which is secured and crime-free,” he said.
He believes the tent would help protect officers on town beat patrol from adverse weather conditions such as rain and sun.
“I hope this tent assistance can encourage the officers to regularly do foot patrols, we are partners and my company supports the work of the police,” he said.
Mr Bruno said safety was a key concern for tourists and investors, and the police played a vital role in providing that assurance.
He added they were committed to supporting the police whenever needed in the future.
“We are a small business, but want to play a role in national security of towns and cities,” he said.
He emphasised the public also needs to play a role and help police with timely tips to ensure crime is avoided.
In Savusavu Town, the issue of public drinking of alcohol was an issue the business operators faced and police continue to deal with the situation.
While for Labasa Town, the nightlife is turning into a haven for drunkards to roam the streets without any fear of police.
Mr Bruno feels every assistance will go a long way to helping police ensure the safety of this country.
