BETIKAMA Adventist College (BAC) located east of Honiara is planning to build a new multi-purpose hall this year.
Principal Beven Tutuo revealed this on Sunday during a first meeting with parents, guardians and supporters for this year.
The meeting was convened at the Burns Creek Adventist School Hall which is named ‘Patridge Hall’.
The two-hour meeting was to brief everyone on some of the activities and projects implemented by the College last year and upcoming ones.
Principal Tutuo outlined a number of projects that have been completed and others that are in the pipeline.
And one of their immediate major projects for this year is the multi-purpose hall which if completed will be used for assembly. It would be similar to the Patridge Hall of Burns Creek SDA School, pictured above.
Principal Tutuo said, most times students and staff normally meet under the trees near the basketball court or in the dining hall.
He said there is a group from Australia that is willing to support the school build the new hall and this project is likely to cost $200, 000.
The principal said the school is being tasked to prepare the foundation and concrete slab before the Australian team arrives to erect the steel structures.
Because of this, he said the school will need to raise funds to support the construction works, adding that a color-a-thon is currently underway.
Principal Tutuo further added that a spiritual concert is also scheduled for the night of Saturday April 19 at Betikama.
The proposed hall will be similar to the Partridge Hall at Burns Creek Adventist School.
A building committee has been formed during the meeting on Sunday and it is led by a private businessman and contractor Charles Sisimia.
The committee held its first meeting on Sunday to start mapping out plans for the groundwork.
Mr Sisimia is appealing to all former students and staff of Betikama to support the project.
He said, its important that this project is given a priority this year.
The team from Australia will travel to Honiara in October to complete the project.
“So, it’s important for the school with the support of parents to start the foundation work and complete it by September,” Mr Sisimia said.
Mr Sisimia and his team are determined to complete the task within the given timeframe.
The proposed plan of the hall was also shown to the parents and guardians during the meeting and most of them were satisfied with it and are happy to support the project.
