Mid Canterbury Rugby has found a man well-equipped to lead the union into its next chapter.
Kenny Addison has been announced as the new chief executive, taking over for Tanya Dearns who is leaving to be chief executive at Heartland rival Wairarapa Bush.
Chairman Ged Rushton said Addison’s extensive rugby knowledge, leadership skills, and passion for the game make him an excellent fit for Mid Canterbury Rugby.
“His skills will compliment and add to the achievements the union has made in participation and community engagement.
“We are confident that under his guidance, Mid Canterbury Rugby will continue to thrive both on and off the field.”
Addison joins Mid Canterbury Rugby having spent 15 years immersed in club rugby and most recently serving as the head of pathways and development and assistant coach for the North Harbour NPC team.
His deep understanding of player development, high-performance pathways, and grassroots rugby will be invaluable in driving the future success of rugby in the region Rushton said.
On top of his rugby expertise, Addison brings a wealth of experience from his commercial career, where he spent several years developing strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial management skills.
“I am incredibly excited to join Mid Canterbury Rugby and be part of such a passionate and proud rugby community,” Addison said.
“Since moving to New Zealand 17 years ago, I’ve gained extensive management experience while deepening my involvement in rugby.
“North Harbour Rugby has been a significant part of my journey, and I’m grateful for the opportunities it has provided.
“In my role as head of pathways and development, I’ve helped shape players’ journeys to the professional game while strengthening relationships with local clubs, something I see as vital to any successful union.
Originally from Scotland, he said rugby has been an incredible way to connect with people and build lifelong friendships.
“I can’t wait to get involved with Mid Canterbury, visit the clubs, and embrace the union’s rich history.
“Last year’s Heartland Team success makes the future even more exciting.”
He said his wife, Susan, and daughter, Alanna, fully support the move south, and “we’re all excited for what’s ahead”.
Addison officially starts as chief executive on March 25.
