Nadi Next on Suva’s List

“This year we’ve put a team together. We hand-picked some players, we are here to compete now but we’re not there yet.

The Suva football team has shifted their focus on Nadi as they clash in the second round of the Fiji Football Association’s National League Championship.

Playing in front of their fans at the HFC Bank Stadium yesterday, Suva drew 1-1 with Ba.

Suva head coach Babs Khan said the focus is on Nadi who had a winning start after beating newcomers Tavua 3-0 on Saturday.

“Nadi is always a good side and playing them at their home ground under the hot sun will be tough,” the wily coach said.

Returning to Suva last year, Khan said he made sure they survived the promotion relegation.

“This year we’ve put a team together. We hand-picked some players, we are here to compete now but we’re not there yet.

“We still have to gell together as Ba gave us a tough game.”

Merrill Nand drew first blood for Suva before Frances Catarogo equalised from the penalty spot as the two sides were locked 1-1 before the breather.

In the second spell both teams fail to capitalise on their chances.

Suva goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva guarded his goalmouth as he made spectacular saves.

Other results:

Nasinu 2-0 Lautoka, Nadroga 1-3 Navua, Rewa 1-1 Labasa, Suva 1-1 Ba, Tavua 0-3 Nadi
