This was the moment Nadi rugby winger Mosese Naura had been waiting for.
After scintillating performances during the Skipper Cup competition, the 22-year-old banked on divine intervention to determine the timing of his selection to the national team.
He saw the call to join the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s rugby sevens extended training squad as a divine opportunity.
The lanky back from Navatusila in Navosa said, he is learning a lot since joining the squad and is now in contention for a spot to the HSBC SVNS Canada Sevens in Vancouver from February 23-24.
“I am speechless it was never in my mind to think that I could soon be wearing the national jersey,” Naura told SUNsports yesterday after their training run at Bidesi Park, Suva.
“Good things take time and good things come to those who work hard for it.”
Naura starred for the Seattle Hawks during the McDonald’s Coral Coast Sevens tournament at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, last month.
His performance caught the attention of Fiji men’s rugby sevens head coach, Osea Kolinisau.
Speaking to SUNsports, Kolinisau said Naura is a raw talent that needs to be trained and showcased to the world stage.
“Today, he was electrifying. He still needs to learn a lot but he is progressing well,” he said.
Kolinisau said the players have been working hard on their game and perfecting their mistakes.
“We need to communicate in the field; that is one area we aim to work on.
“We were switched off in the Cup semi-final against South Africa in Perth. We need to up our game to compete and win,” he said.
Fiji will face Uruguay, Spain and USA in Vancouver.
“We were too overconfident in the game against Uruguay in Perth. That was our mistake, we will leave no stone unturned in Vancouver and we are gunning for the main prize,” Kolinisau added.
