In February 2025 Australia Awards Solomon Islands is offering professional training for Australia Awards alumni on understanding disability. Applications for this training opportunity are now open.
This training will provide a foundational understanding of disability, its various forms, its implications for individuals and society, and its impact on programming.
The training sessions will cover key topics including:
- social vs medical model: differentiating the medical model of disability and social model focusing also on societal barriers
- accessibility and inclusion: ensuring accessible spaces, communication, and technology for full participation
- rights and legislation: key frameworks protecting disability rights
- policy and advocacy: the role of policies in promoting disability inclusion.
Province-based alumni are encouraged to apply. Australia Awards Solomon Islands can provide travel and accommodation support for successful province-based applicants to come to Honiara.
Australia Awards alumni are those who have successfully completed studies in Australia or the Pacific region through an Australia Awards, or Australia Awards Pacific Scholarship.
