The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) women’s super league will feature six teams this season.
According to Fiji FA Media it is set to make a strong return this season with a revamped format with the exclusion of one team.
Fiji FA competitions manager Shaniya Shankar said the change aims to elevate the competition’s intensity and deliver a higher standard of football for fans and players alike.
“The streamlined format ensures that only the most competitive teams participate, promising fans high-quality football throughout the season,” Shankar told Fiji FA Media.
The reduction of the number of teams is to strengthen competitiveness and efficiency.
“This change aligns with Fiji FA’s vision to raise the standard of women’s football and prepare players for higher levels of competition, including regional and international tournaments,” she said.
“The revised format will bring out the best in our players and coaches while providing fans with thrilling matches,” Shankar added.
A round-robin playoff will be held next month between the three lowest-ranked teams from last season to determine the final six teams for the league.
The lowest ranked teams are Suva, Tailevu Naitasiri, and Nadroga. The outcome of this play-off will decide which teams secure their place in the super league for this season.
Meanwhile last season’s champions, Ba women have qualified for the OFC (Oceania Football Confederation) women’s Champions league in Tahiti. The achievement underscores the progress of women’s football in Fiji and the league’s role in preparing teams for higher levels of competition.
