Cricket Fiji have roped in Sanjiv Dubey on a short-term phase to run a training camp for the national Under-19 team.
This is in preparation for the East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers in Japan in April.
Dubey is a high-performance coach from Australia.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Dubey indicated the training included upskilling sessions; he was assisted by local coaches.
“It is also about improving the game if you look at it in a holistic way.
“It’s about improving Cricket Fiji’s profile in international cricket and it will only happen if we do a lot of homework,” he said.
“We are in the process of doing a lot of homework when we go beyond international tournament; we are able to well and this is the process.”
Dubey said it was his third year working with Cricket Fiji.
“It has been a humbling experience for me in a way and the great thing about these young people is that they are good people,” he said.
“The energy and the learning are at the highest level when one works with good, humble and simple people.
The training camp began yesterday at Albert Park in Suva; it will conclude on January 25.
“The main thing is to work on their core skills, it’s a slow and long process but if we follow that then we’ll get where we’ll be,” he said.
“We will add layers on top of that so that is my aim. I want to see that they are playing shots as if they are professionals when they go to international arenas.”
Dubey said he was confident of the training camps process and the youth players’ progress.
The training camp is also open to interested female players who are currently playing in the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League competition.
