No bias selection.
This was the gist of Tagimocia Ranadi sevens team manageress Ana Rabuka plea during an interview with SUNsports.Rabuka has called out for equal opportunity to be given to players in selection for the national team.
“We need non bias selection when it comes to our national team,” she said.
“I suggest selectors to try their best to be present at the local tournaments to watch first hand all our players from every club and pick the best from those participating clubs to be in the extended squad before they finalise the team.”
Rabuka said the current selection process for players to represent the Fijiana team is one sided.
“It is downgrading for other grassroot clubs who have been giving it their all to be consistent in our local tournaments around the country,” she said.
“Hoping to see a positive change for the better as in equal and fair selection for all.”
Rabuka said grassroots players will be motivated to improve their performance in local tournaments provided that there is fair selection.
“It’s a way of acknowledging our grassroot clubs for the great and consistent ground work that theyre doing for our local women ruggers,” she said.
Rabuka said there also needs to be a review on local tournaments prizemoney for women’s teams to ensure there is gender equality.
She managered her team who went on to win the women’s division Nataleira 7s last month.
