Fiji to host East Asia qualifier

2025 will be a big year for women’s cricket in the country.

No only they will participate in the inaugural Four Nations tournament in New Caledonia, they will also host the ICC (International Cricket Council) T20 East Asia Pacific qualifier for the first time.

Cricket Fiji chief executive officer Sitiveni Rokoro confirmed yesterday that seven teams will be in Fiji for the qualifier.

“The seven teams include Japan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Samoa, Cook Islands and Fiji.

“The winner will secure a place in the women’s World Cup in 2026,” he said.

He added that following the completion of the Suva T20 League a national squad will be selected for the Four Nations.

Rokoro said the tournament is organised by Cricket France and will be held in March.

“We will also have the Fiji secondary school under 19 in January,” he said.

“We have already got a training squad for U19 boys that will play in the division U19 world cup qualifiers in Japan in April.”

Rokoro said there has been a lot of interest shown by cricket associations for the annual Easter senior men’s tournament.

“Each association wants to send in two teams,” he said. Rokoro said the top eight from the Easter games tournament will play in a super eight tournament later next year with the date to be confirmed later.

“The date is yet to be confirmed.”

He added the Fiji Secondary Schools U19 girls and boys tournament will also be held after it was revived this year.
