Fiji’s bid to have a team in the National Rugby League (NRL) is still in the pipeline.
This was confirmed by Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru.
Saukuru said Government had been whatever it could in backing the company that’s heading the proposal.
“The NRL bid still going on,” he said.

Unlike Papua New Guinea, Saukuru indicated they have not sought financial aid from their Australian counterparts yet; PNG was granted their licence last week to have an NRL team in 2028. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Papua New Guinean counterpart James Marape met in Sydney to shake hands over the deal last week.
Update from commission of inquiry
Meanwhile, there has not been an update from the commission of inquiry regarding the investigation on Ubayd Haider’s death.
“The last update I got was when the remaining six in overseas was to be interviewed incluing the promoter, Freddy Chand.”
Saukuru said an update from the commission of inquiry should be expected this week from the chairperson Edwin Wainiqolo.
