It seems the Public Works Department (PWD) is now a legal entity within the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services & Transport.
Heavy road work machinery marked “PWD” have been deployed to areas that urgently need construction of access road and upgrade of existing road.
“The road condition in some of our rural and maritime road is deplorable and some of these roads were neglected by the previous Government,” said Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
“In the previous administration, roads that are not captured under the Fiji Roads Authority’s (FRA) inventory system is categorized as non-FRA roads.
“In this regard, non-FRA roads are normally not part of the FRA routine maintenance program.
“This has changed when the Coalition Government came into power.
Minister Takisawa said that this is one of the reasons of reinstating the Public Works Department to ensure that all roads is attended to.
“Government have purchased road work machines which are now stationed in the Ministry’s Divisional depots in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa.
PWD is currently carrying out road works in Nasereilagi, Nalidi and Roma in Ra, Naisogo in Naitasiri, Nasealevu in Macuata and Vanuabalavu in Lau.
