Winning the Vodafone Kaji competition will be bonus for the Ra district teams.

This was the comment of Under 13 coach Varayame Ratu.

He said that their goal was to get exposure and develop their youngsters.

The team only trained together for a week before the games kicked off yesterday at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

Despite not having training shoes it did not deter them from competing at the national meet.

The four teams of two grades (U13 and 14) are selected from as far as Drauniivi to Bureiwai and Bucalevu.

“We came here not to win but to develop young boys’ skills; we’ll try our best to win some of the games before we reach the main day.

“Now the Fijiana teams, 7s and 15s and the Fijian Drua women’s are doing well, so getting the girls’ team along will also help develop to prepare for high school rugby.

“We taught them rugby skills, all students are not the same, some are good in the classroom while others are outside – they have different talents.”

The side has been having three training sessions daily, starting their day with a morning devotion.

“To the people of Ra here in Suva if you are free please head to the stadium to show your support for our teams.”
