Jiangmen City supports HCC with cleaning items

GARBAGE collectors working under Honiara City Council (HCC) have been boosted with new outfits, masks and gloves when collecting garbage and rubbish around the city.

The materials were made possible as generous show of solidarity by Jiangmen City from China to the Honiara City Council (HCC).

The donated critical cleaning materials donation includes 57 boxes of surgical masks, 134 boxes of surgical gloves, 29 boxes of protective clothing, and 50 garbage bins.

They were formally handed over to the HCC Waste Management division on Thursday, 17th of October 2024.

Mr. Wilson Eta, the Waste Management Director, and his team received the items on behalf of the HCC management and expressed deep gratitude for the timely assistance.

He acknowledged the crucial role these cleaning materials will play in enhancing the city’s healthcare and sanitation efforts, particularly in the ongoing fight against infectious diseases.

“We are deeply thankful to the people of Jiangmen City for their generosity. These supplies will greatly assist in protecting our frontliners and maintaining a clean environment within the city,” Mr. Eta stated during the handover ceremony.

The donation underscores the strong ties between Honiara and Jiangmen City, reflecting the importance of international partnerships in tackling global health challenges.

It is expected that the donated items will be distributed promptly to waste management personnel to boost safety measures and infection control.

HCC officials hope that this donation will pave the way for future collaborations and continued support in safeguarding public health.

Chinese Embassy representative Mr. Gu Wenlong stated Honiara City is the only city that has a sister relationship with China city, namely Jiangmen City of Guangdong Province.

He said during the past few years, Jiangmen City has donated a large number of living materials, including motorcycles, ambulances, garbage trucks, street solar lights, and many other materials.

“The Embassy will continue to encourage Jiangmen City to further enhance their cooperation with Honiara and more contributions to the city’s development,” Mr. Wenlong explained.

He uttered that last month, together with so many friends in Honiara celebrated the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the two countries’ relations.

“Looking ahead, China is ready to work with Honiara and every province of Solomon Islands to further advance the friendship and cooperation between the two countries to bring more benefits in terms of developments,” he said.
