ARLC chairman Peter V’landys has blasted the organisers of the proposed expansion side for trying to “lowball” them in negotiations.
The Australia Rugby League Commission (ARLC) has turned its back on the consortium that was bringing the Western Bears into the NRL (National Rugby League).
ARLC chairman Peter V’landys has blasted the organisers of the proposed expansion side for trying to “lowball” them in negotiations.
A consortium led by Cash Converters deputy chairman Peter Cumins with ties to the old Western Reds franchise had been the frontrunner for one of three potential new licences in an expanded 20-team league.
“I’ve said from day one that for expansion to happen, a business case has to be prosecuted,” V’landys told the Sydney Morning Herald.
“If we don’t believe the business case stacks up, how can we take it to our members when we’re not convinced ourselves.
“The business case in its current state does not stack up, so naturally it has been rejected. We are presently dealing with the West Australian government, who have been excellent throughout the whole process.”
