Former Ratu Kadavulevu School student and Fijian Drua open-side flanker Motikiai Murray is anticipating a great season next year.

The 21-year-old Lovoni, Ovalau, Lomaiviti native, is back on track with his light training following his ankle surgery in Sydney, Australia, few months ago. He shares maternal links to Nukuni-i-cake, Ono I Lau.

“I’m just focusing on my rehab since and have been prepping well for the upcoming seasons,” he said.

“I haven’t started running yet, but hopefully I get on the field during the field sessions.”

Murray debuted for the Drua during their Super Rugby Pacific quarterfinal match against Crusaders in June last year.

With the guidance of the senior players on the side, he is learning off them and hoping that he will make his Flying Fijian debut soon.

Growing up, Murray said he was inspired by Flying Fijian flanker Levani Botia and followed into his footsteps.

“Botia is strong in both defense and breakdown, I loved watching him and hopefully I’ll be that player one day.

“It feels good to be playing alongside the brothers. I used to watch them playing rugby league, sevens, and also for the Flying Fijians.

“Playing alongside them has being exciting and my main focus is just to stay fit be the best of me during the season.

Murray added that he is waiting for the right time to don the national jumper.

He added that if given the opportunity he would also play at number 8.

Murray played six matches for the Drua in the last two seasons.
