“The Beast” Ready to Prove Himself against Dauloloma

“I’ll prove to everybody that I’m the best heavyweight boxer in Fiji. I’ve been training together with Junior Binnu Singh; we did a lot of sprints and strength training.”

Fiji heavyweight champion James “The Beast” Singh will not underestimate challenger Semi Dauloloma in tonight’s title clash at Suva’s Vodafone Arena.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Singh said preparation has been good.

“I’ve done the hard yards, the body and training were good,” he said.

“I faced some personal issues as my dad was sick and I had to stay with him for three weeks in the hospital.”

Singh said he only had two weeks of preparation for this fight against Dauloloma.

“I’ll prove to everybody that I’m the best heavyweight boxer in Fiji. I’ve been training together with Junior Binnu Singh; we did a lot of sprints and strength training.”

Singh said he had to run a 10km (kilometres) run yesterday morning before the official weigh-in at Suva’s Terry Walk.

“I know that he (Semi) has strong jabs and I just need to work the body more because he’ll be fitter than me. I’m going to put on a show for everybody that’s going to come and watch the fight.”

Singh said his humble beginnings are the secret to his successful boxing career.

“I was homeless at one time in Suva and I took up boxing and it changed my life for the better. If you put your heart and money on whatever it is in life; you can change your life.”

Singh said he started in amateur boxing by joining the Newtown Boxing Club with no shoes.

“This is my last local fight and I’ll have a fight in August at Sigatoka, but I will not reveal the name of my opponent as yet,” he said.

New approach

Meanwhile, Dauloloma said he is eager to take on Singh in the ring with a totally different approach. “I’m looking forward to a win and my loss last year will be motivating me to go for a win,” he said.

“This fight is for my coach Sepesa Rosini because he always supported me in training during my preparations.”

Dauloloma said he would be unleashing uppercuts on Singh since it is his strongest punch.

“My weakness was lack of fitness but now my fitness is up to par. I urge all the fans, families and friends to come out in numbers and it’s going to be a good fight. May the best man wins.”
