Wherever we stand in the world, we stand out because of our culture.
President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere said this while addressing the Fiji contingent to the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC) 2024 in Hawaii.
The Fiji contingent, which consists of over 100 personnel from eight distinct clusters in the heritage art and culture sector presented their i-tatau at the State House today.
“The world will witness this in the days ahead. As you go forth, representing Fiji, carry our cultures and all that makes us unique. When meeting people from around the globe, remember to convey that you are from Fiji, a place of uniqueness,” Ratu Wiliame said.
He said as the hub of the South Pacific, Fiji is the agent of change in the Pacific.
“We have left our mark on the international stage, particularly in the tourism sector and peacekeeping efforts. Wherever we stand in the world, we stand out because of our culture.”
“Because Fiji is located west of the International Date Line and leads in many ways, it is a place where every day is fresh. Let’s make it our mission to lead in all areas, including culture, values, and behaviour.
“As you represent the entire nation of Fiji, its 14 provinces, and all its people, do so with pride. Hold your heads high and proudly share with the world who we are and what we do best – our culture.”
The contingent will leave our shores in two groups: the first on Tuesday, June 4, and the second on Thursday, June 6.
