There is confusion over the appointment of the new Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) chief executive officer.

The Fiji Rugby Union in a press release yesterday has confirmed that Acting Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forestry Rovereto Nayacalevu has been appointed as the new CEO.

“I am honoured to take on this role and lead an organisation that means so much to me and to the people of Fiji. Rugby is a unifying force in our nation, and I am dedicated to working with all stakeholders to drive Fiji Rugby to new heights,” Nayacalevu stated in the FRU press release over his appointment.

He takes over from FRU interim administrator Simione Valenitabua who was farewelled on Wednesday.

However, when contacted yesterday afternoon Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman, Luke Rokovada, confirmed that Nayacalevu had been offered the position of CEO by FRU but has not resigned.

“As far as I am concerned, he has not tendered his resignation as of today,” Rokovada told SUNsports.

“He may do it later but as of today I have not received anything. So he is still Acting Permanent Secretary of Fisheries and Forestry.”
