The Labasa Town Council spent close to $45,000 to purchase new floodlights to enhance the illumination for night games in this weekend’s Digicel Fiji FACT football tournament.

The testing was done early this week and the green light has been given for its usage.

Council special administrator chairperson, Paul Jaduram, said following the tournament there are plans to upgrade the facility.

“The maintenance works are completed including the public convenience, entrance and the sheltered walkway.

Jaduram confirmed that the park would be ready by midday today (Thursday).

Council special administrator, Samuela Ligairi, has engaged church groups, Macuata Rugby Union players, Labasa Netball, Labasa Football, Vualiku Media, and other voluntary groups to assist with the painting.

Jaduram said council workers have constructed drains at the enclosed sections of the park to drain out rainwater.

He said work on the top dressing of the pitch grass is complete to meet the playing requirement.

“Our council workers are also trying to fill the potholes in the ground to ensure that the ball movement is conducive,” he said.

Jaduram said the ground would not be flooded because of the many drains constructed.
