Dawasamu Secondary School Under-18 sevens rugby winger Akisi Bola has set her sights in becoming a professional rugby player in the future.

She wants to play for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua in the Super W competition and the Vodafone Fijiana XVs.

Bola showed her speed during the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools sevens rugby competition at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Her school walloped Rampur College 19–0 and Magodro Secondary School 34–0.

“I’d like to dedicate this win to my family back home, to the teachers and supporters as well,” she said.

“Our target coming to this competition is to reach the final and win the Cup.”

The 18 year old Naikawaga speedster had spectators on their feet as she ran past four defenders to score against Rampur College. “I also want to represent the Dawasamu girls’ under-18 team in the Weet-Bix Raluve competition,” she said.

“I am confident that we can defend the title again this year and I always pray to God to give me the strength to play this sport.”

Bola said she would need to change her attitude towards training if she is to get a professional rugby contract.

“I want to join the Army after high school and play rugby for the women’s team with the hopes of playing rugby professionally,” she said.

Deans Trophy preps

Meanwhile, Ba Methodist High School Under-18 sevens rugby head coach Thomas Vuto acknowledged their principal Azam Ali for approving their request to play in the competition.

“Playing in the western qualifiers allowed us to qualify for the Fiji Secondary Schools sevens competition,” he said.

“I’d also like to thank the old scholars and the staff back in school for being supportive whenever we need to go out for training.”

Vuto said it was a big boost for their side to get exposure in sevens rugby before the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition gets underway.

The school also won the Fiji Secondary Schools U15 national title.
