Former Fiji light heavyweight champion Savenaca “Lightning” Naliva will leave no stones unturned in his WBF (World Boxing Foundation) Asia Pacific cruiserweight title fight against Sebastian Singh at Suva’s Vodafone Arena on June 22.
Naliva recently gave up the Fiji light heavyweight title since he cannot make the weight.
“I’ve prepared well for the fight next month and I’m expecting a good fight with Sebastian,” Naliva said.
“I urge boxing fans in Fiji to come and watch this entertaining fight.”
Naliva said he faced a few challenges but he was glad that Bluewater Boxing promoter Samir Khan stepped in to help in his preparation.
“I’m currently camping in Nadi with Khan who has helped me a lot in my journey for this upcoming fight,” he said.
“I’ve been training for three months and I’m just patiently waiting for the fight on June 22.”
Naliva said he has set a target to win against Singh and claim the WBF Asia Pacific cruiserweight title.
“I wanted to move up the ranks to challenge Alivereti Kauyaca who is the Fiji cruiserweight title holder,” he said.
“I last fought Kolinio Luvelolo at Prince Charles Park, Nadi in December, last year and won on points.”
Naliva has already fought Kauyaca where he lost on points.
“I have retired my light heavyweight belt and have jumped up to the cruiserweight division with the aim of winning the title.
“It was quite hard to make the transition from light heavyweight to cruiserweight. The cruiserweight division consists of good boxers, so it’ll be a challenge for me to get to the belt.”
Naliva said training remains the same for boxers when shifting weight divisions.
“The only change is that I put on more weight, and I wasn’t able to go back to light heavyweight, so I stuck with the cruiserweight,” he added.
The main supporting bout will see the return bout between Fiji heavyweight champion James Singh and Semi Daulomaloma in a title fight.
Singh won their earlier fight with a second round knockout.
The other title fights is between Jese Ravudi taking on Rakuro Dauvavana, Ronald Naidu faces Mohammed Ali while Junior Binnu Singh fights Zulfikar Ali.
