Breaking the 22-tournament winless jinx in Dubai last weekend, the Fiji men’s rugby sevens side has now focused on winning more tournaments in the HSBC SVNS Series.
Head coach Osea Kolinisau said they need to be challenging every title that comes their way.
The no-nonsense coach has highlighted the need to be consistent.
This weekend, the Fiji men’s are in Pool A where they face a tough Great Britain side and Uruguay.
The Jeremaia Matana- captained side will be looking for a strong finish to end the year at the top of the series points table.
Fiji leads with 20 points followed by Spain with 18, Argentina in third spot with 16 and New Zealand with 14. Great Britain is at eighth spot with six followed by Uruguay with four points.
In an earlier interview, Kolinisau said there is no easy team in the competition and they need to be on their guard this weekend.
The Fijiana women’s rugby sevens team will be out to register their first win in the series.
The Timoci Volavola coached-side lost all their matches in Dubai. For this weekend, they are in Pool D with Great Britain and United States of America.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Donavan Don believes the new format that is to be introduced at the Cape Town SVNS tournament this weekend has upped the stakes for the Blitzboks, following their disappointing sixth place finish in the 2024/25 series opener in Dubai on Sunday.
“We are disappointed with our placing in Dubai, but I know we can improve this weekend. The time spent together on tour was great for us as a squad and we bonded nicely.” he said.
