About 700 swimmers from 58 schools will be participating at the two-day Fiji National Schools Swimming Association (FNSSA) competition which starts tomorrow at the Damodar Aquatic centre, Suva.
President Salaseini Lele said about 38 are primary schools.
“The rest makes up private schools and secondary schools,” she said.
“We are following the age-group nationals on the year of birth aligning our championship to schools in Australia.”
Lele indicated FNSSA will be participating in an invitational school competition in Australia.
“We are looking at the first and second placed swimmers to represent Fiji.”
Drasa Avenue School (DAS), Lautoka and Marist Brothers High School are the defending primary school and secondary champions respectively.
Lele said DAS has fielded 29 swimmers at this year’s nationals.
“We have team of very young swimmers. Some have pulled out due to injuries.
“We’re not expecting anything big, we just want our team to participate and see the outcome.”
