Apia. Samoa – 4 July 2025 – As the voters registration close, the Office of the Electoral Commission (OEC) has confirmed that 18,411 have yet to be registered.

As of yesterday, 84.3% which is 98,814 have registered and the remaining percentage of 15.7% which is equivalent to 18,411 are yet to register.

The total amount of voters that should be registered is 117,225 based on the 2021 Census figures.

It is the last rush for unregistered voters to avoid a fine of $2000 if not registered.

The OEC has closed all outlets including its main office at Mulinu’u as they utilise the Multipurpose Hall at Tuana’imato to accommodate everyone and according to a senior OEC official. Registrations ended at the early hours of Wednesday and up to this morning as staff worked overtime to cater for those who were already inside the hall. When the doors were closed, there were still many outside who were still not registered.

There have been a fair number of overseas based Samoans who traveled over for a few days to register, return, then come back to vote 29 August.

As registration closing time neared, the Commissioner continued to warn candidates and village mayors and Sui Tamaitai to refrain from “completing online voters registration portal forms on behalf of another individual.”

A notice from the OEC says that “even if correct documents are submitted, registration completed by someone else without lawful authority may constitute an offence.”

Registrations for election candidates start 10 July followed by the campaign period as Samoa heads to the polls on 29 August 2025.
