The Extra Supermarket Labasa side walked away with $17,000 last night after defeating Ajay Trading Rewa, 4-2, in the final of the BiC Fiji FACT tournament at the HFC Bank Stadium, Suva.

The match ended in penalty shootout after they were tied, 1-all at full time.

The Babasiga Lions last won the Fiji FACT in 2015 against Rewa at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

Head coach Alvin Chand said the team’s dedication and determination led to their victory.

“There were a lot of reasons for us to win this tournament; firstly the farewell for our outgoing president Rayaz Khan and a gift for our new president who has come in, Shaheen Hussain,” he said.

“This is my first tournament as the coach; all our families that came from Labasa to support us was what drove us to the victory.”

Captain and goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau scooped the Golden Gloves award while Suva’s Joe Moses won the Golden Boot; he scored four goals.

“I can’t’ describe this feeling and God has been the source of inspiration for this team,” he said.

“I’d like to thank the Rewa team, nothing can be taken away from them as they are a champion side that gave us a good run right till the final whistle.”

Tamanisau dedicated the win to all the police officers in the North.

Labasa’s Rusiate Doidoi walked away with the Golden Ball award after being named player of the final.

Meanwhile, runners-up Rewa won $5000.
